Latest Apple updates: You must know

Software Update is a system utility developed by Apple Computer that cares about the software update from Apple to the latest version on the computer on which you installed the operating system Mac OS X. It is part of the CoreServices in Mac OS X. This application is located in the path / System / Library / CoreServices / Update Software.app.

There is also a version of Software Update for Mac OS Classic, starting with the 9.0 release of the system.

It is recommended to install the proposed updates: these include Security Update (security updates), system updates and drivers, updates for Apple applications on the user's computer (iLife, iTunes, QuickTime, etc.). From Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard utility also offers driver updates of printers manufactured by HP.

All updates require you to enter an administrator password, and some require a restart of the system. From Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, updates that require a restart are installed only after the user has confirmed the execution of the restart.

From OS X Mountain Lion, software update was unified with the Mac App Store.

Functions

It can be set to check for updates daily, weekly, monthly or only on user demand.

Can also download the updates in the form of packets (the same used by Installer), that can be installed at a later time or used on another computer without having to re-download from the Internet.

Allows you to keep a history of installed updates.

Makes it possible to ignore the Apple software updates not owned by the user and not to show them later.
