Maps, Apple's app sends GPS drivers on the tarmac of an airport

Last missed to date, plans a misdirected users, by passing on the slopes of a Canadian airport. The error has fortunately resulted in no accident.

About a year after its launch marked not many bugs, Maps, the mapping system and GPS iOS is again about him. And, again, this is not necessarily good.

Two cars are made for aircraft

So Angie Spear, director of marketing and communications of the Fairbanks International Airport, in central Alaska, told AFP: "We had two runway incursions, 6 and 20 September" . "In both cases, the people involved have said they had followed the instructions given by their iPhone to get to the airport," she said, adding that the raids had resulted in no accident.

Savvy two cents

According to Ms. Spear, the mapping application of the iPhone 5 (iOS 6, at the time most likely) was passing by motorists reserved for private planes, separated from the trading terminal by the runway area. The "application did not tell them specifically to cross the track (take-off), but it led them to the track next transit. From there, people could see the building (the terminal) and crossed the runway "to join him, said Ms. Spear.
Dozens of signs and light signals inform airport users of the driving ban on the slopes, but"people were so focused on their phones instead of stopping, they thought their device more the panels, "lamented Ms. Spear.

Apple has been slow to respond

The airport, operated by Alaska, warned Apple on September 6 and the state prosecutor was immediately seized. According to Ms. Spear, Apple expected Wednesday, nearly 20 days to act, removing altogether the instructions to the airport. "For now, it is not corrected. The application says only that information (to the airport) are not available, "she said. Contacted by AFP, Apple was not immediately available. This is not the first time that the application mapping Apple under fire. In September 2012, the group's CEO, Tim Cook , apologized to its customers for the poor performance of its implementation. He then assured that his group was"all (his) effort to improve (the application) Plans," and had even recommended the use of the Google Maps competitor.
